Little Hobbit House on the Web - Selected January 17, 2006
|
Obelia Medusa has documented in meticulus detail the amazing Hobbit dollhouse she made based on images of Bag End from the Peter Jackson movies.
When we took a look at this site, we knew we had to feature it as a Xenite Cool Site. You just don't see this kind of dedication to detail and personal expression of love for an SF topic very often.
Some of the pictures are so realistic you would almost believe they were shot in a real Hobbit hole. Tolkien himself would be astounded and quite flattered by this project.
Of course, we couldn't help but notice the electric lights in the wall sconces. So, maybe this is a modern Hobbit hole. Who cares? It's a fantastic idea and deserves major kudos. Thank you, Obelia Medusa!

Gus Grissom's Suit - Selected October 20, 2005
|
Space suit, that is. Gus Grissom was one of the original seven American astronauts, and he was also one of the first astronauts to lose his life in the pursuit of space science.
When Amanda Meyer learned that the Grissom family were struggling to retain control over Gus Grissom's Mercury 7 space suit, which they had claimed after NASA attempted to destroy it, she stepped in and took on the American bureaucratic juggernaut.
The chief obstacles have been overcome, and NASA has agreed to restore custody of the suit to Gus' heirs. But there is one last objective: they need to build a special containment case for the Gus Grissom Memorial Museum. Amanda is now seeking $23,000.
We only wish other demands had not prevented us from advertising this campaign earlier this year, but Xenite wants to help spread the word. And you can still make a difference.

SORCERY & SCIENCE - Selected April 17, 2005
|
It's not easy to earn money as a science fiction and fantasy writer. If you want to write fiction for pay, you have to know how to do the job. But where do you get experience?
Webzines have been around almost as long as the Web itself. They come and go, and sadly too many vanish before people even learn about them. If you're lucky, you find an abandoned site now and then.
Sorcery and Science makes no bones about its impoverished resources. They do their thing purely for the love of science fiction and fantasy. The site is nonetheless a standout among amateur Webzines.
We like Sorcery & Science because they bring a touch of professionalism to their presentation. They don't just have their own domain name, they have a well-designed site. And they offer a free .PDF version of the magazine.
The story quality varies, but clearly the writers have put some effort into polishing their skills. Sorcery & Science promises to be a fertile proving ground for potential talent.
Check out a great new resource for fans and new writers alike!
