A Low Impact Woodland Home

 - Selected February 25, 2007
A low impact woodland home in Wales looks very hobbitish... Sometimes you stumble across a Web site that just makes you stop and say, "Wow!" This site made us stop and say, "Holy mackeral! Wow! Good gravy, my lady -- what is that?".

To say that it made an impression upon us is the mother of all understatements. Someone actually lives in this very Hobbit-like house, and it cost less than $10,000 USD to build.

The homeowner obviously has a strong love of nature. We just could not help but notice how much like a true Hobbit home it truly seems.

If you're in the market for a new home and have some land with a little hill, you may want to just consider building your own snug little Hobbit hole.

Amanda's Castle: Original fantasy art by Amanda Penrose

 - Selected November 26, 2006
Amanda's Castle offers free artwork, stories, and commission work... Every now and then we go looking for interesting artwork on the Web. Amanda's Castle caught our eye mainly because her site lacks the gaudiness so many fantasy art sites wallow in.

Curious, we looked deeper and found a treasure trove of original artwork in Anime styles that most fantasy fans would, we believe, thoroughly enjoy.

Amanda Penrose's work is smooth and polished, although she has room for improvement. But her professional presentation is enhanced by her generosity.

With a few caveats, she allows fans to re-use her artwork for free. But she also offers tutorials and step-by-step explanations of how she created images. That is so cool. Thank you, Amanda.

Canadian Pulp Fiction: 1940-1952

 - Selected June 6, 2006
Library and Archives Canada offers Tales from the Vault... Once in a while you come across a professionally designed Web site that is just so cool you have to suspend your unwritten "amateurs only" rule and recognize something of value to Science Fiction and Fantasy fans.

Library and Archives Canada created just such a site with Tales from the Vault. Pulp fiction stories gave rise to great action heroes and many of the trademark characteristics of modern science ficion and fantasy.

Pulp fiction was not simply peculiar to the United States. It flourished in other markets, and this unique Web site not only introduces you to Canadian pulp fiction, it shows you what the old pulps looked like.

This is what Science Fiction and Fantasy fandom is all about. Thanks guys, and may you have many, many happy visitors browse the vault.
