Guillermo del Toro News

Film critics loved Guillermo del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth", which told the story of a little girl who -- during the era of World War II -- learned her spirit was actually the spirit of a princess from the fairy realm. Fans of the "Hellboy" movies also know del Toro's work as he is the director for the first two Hellboy film adaptations.

When Peter Jackson selected Guillermo del Toro to direct the "Hobbit" sequels, many people asked why del Toro and not some other, better-known director. But really Jackson and del Toro have very similar preferences and styles. Both like monsters and broad canvas stories with intricate plotting. Although The Hobbit may not seem like it has a complex plot, the goal of interweaving background events with the main storyline in the movies will complicate the film narrative -- just the way Guillermo del Toro likes it!
