LOTR hopefuls profiled in local newspaper - Lord of the Rings news - J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings

Tolkien Webmasters have known for some time that The Otago Daily Times provides a wealth of LOTR-related feature articles. The site uses frames, which is a bit annoying, but provides an effective search tool which brings up dozens of past articles (recent and ancient) which mention or discuss Peter Jackson's 'The Lord of the Rings'.

Last year ODT profiled Joy Hanson, a Dunedin costumier who contracted with Three Foot Six Productions to be part of a 13-person sewing crew.

More recently ODT profiled Doug, a horse exercising to stay in shape with the hope (on his owner's part) of appearing in one of the up-coming LOTR battle scenes. However, Doug's beer-drinking habit may get him ticketed for being ridden under the influence if the police stop him again.

Searching for relevant news stories on the Web can be tedious, which is probably why the LOTR movie Web sites are so popular with online fans and the curious general public. They filter out most of the extraneous content, although some sites seem ready to post just about anything to keep their content fresh...like this article.
