Evening Post reports on LOTR vanity plates in New Zealand - Lord of the Rings news - J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings
August 05, 2000 at 03:39:36New Zealanders have been able to purchase personalized or vanity license plates for their vehicles since 1988, and Lord of the Rings themed plates are becoming popular, according to an article in The Evening Post.
Some people, including TheOneRing.Net's Erica Challis (Tehanu) have bought plates as an investment after hearing one was sold for $6000.00 (New Zealand).
Tehanu recently posted her own report on the fad. It won't be long now, perhaps, before international fans can get into the game and start buying official New Zealand license plates with LOTR character and place names. Or maybe not....
