The Loop article, Cauldron of Creativity, says WETA Workshops, Ltd. has another 9 months of production on "The Lord of the Rings" before WETA Digital, Ltd. takes over and starts adding the CGI effects to the three films.
WETA has been working on the "Lord of the Rings" project for three years, according to the article.
As usual, the media has missed the boat, however, and calls Tolkien's Middle-earth a "medieval fantasy world". The events in The Lord of the Rings are set in an imaginary time about 6,000 years ago, more than 4500 years before most scholars mark the onsought of Europe's Middle Ages. Tolkien himself denied medieval connections on several occasions, and stressed the primitive simplicity of the cultures.
