OneRing.Net gets more detailed spy report on Wingate set - Lord of the Rings news - J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings

August 05, 2000 at 19:04:46

The Hutt Hobbit has checked in with a report on the doings at the Wingate set, where the spiked wheel was recently spotted by Realm of the Ring recently.

All fans now seem to agree that this must be an Isengard set (we should all keep in mind there is more than one Isengard set) and that it is probaby being used to film scenes of the wreckage of Isengard after the Ents have finished destroying Saruman's defenses.

The green suit mentioned in the report may be of the kind used for masking out technicians and actors when blue- and green-screen special effects are employed.

The giant wheels are most likely broken machinery, which was visible to Theoden and his companions when they entered Isengard at Gandalf's request. Tolkien's description of the fortress of Isengard indicates there were many undergound sections where huge machines operated and belched out vaporous smoke for purposes that Pippin and Merry could not fathom.
