On May 30, 2001, a representative of Random House offered five promotional copies of the graphic adaptation to Xenite.Org. We gratefully accepted the five books and decided to include them in the Tolkien and Middle-earth fan programming track at Dragoncon, which was held in Atlanta, GA over the Labor Day Weekend (August 31 through September 3, 2001).
Four of the graphic books were given away at the Hobbit Madness party. The fifth volume was given out later on. Neither Xenite.Org nor any members of its staff, nor any members of Dragoncon, kept any copies of the book for personal. We were happy to help introduce a few new fans to the wonderful artwork of David Wenzel.
The graphic adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's popular children's tale was first published in 1996 and was re-released in 2001 to capitalize on interest in Peter Jackson's upcoming "Lord of the Rings" movies. Fan sites have been selected from time to time to help promote the Lord of the Rings movies and associated products and services.
Thank you, Del Rey Books and Random House, for choosing Xenite.Org to participate in this promotional campaign.
