Galacticon provides a forum for KAG Spring Break (KAG is the Klingon Assault Group) every year. But though there be Klingons in the con suite, the convention has a very definite interest in literary topics and guests. This year's guest of honor will be the delightful Pauline Griffin, whose Star Commando novels and Witch World/Time Trader novels have delighted fans for years.
Dr. Lawrence Schoen, director of the Klingon Language Institute, will lend his expertise to rousing cheers of Qa'Pla! as blood-wine is quaffed and Klingons let their...hair...down in the way only Klingons can.
Fans of H.P. Lovecraft will want to meet William "Blake" Smith, whose story "The Thing in the Cellar" (to be published in Weird Tales) plays with Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos in near-perfect HPLanguage.
Gamers will have the opportunity to meet Sean Fannin and Andy Vetromile.
Martinez will appear at the convention on Saturday, March 22 to answer fan questions about Tolkien's world and discuss the Peter Jackson movies with enthusiasts and disdainers alike. The author will also speak about his upcoming book, Understanding Middle-earth, due to be published later this year by Vivisphere, and other projects.
Musical guests Emerald Rose, a Celtic folk music group, will round out the convention's itinerary with a performance.
