The Two Towers

We have received many inquiries about this movie plot summary. How accurate is it? Not very accurate. IN FACT IT'S WRONG. Why? Because we lost the most recent update in a server crash and Michael has been too busy to rewrite. We do apologize. We'll try to get a correct version back online eventually.
Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli set out in pursuit of the Orcs who have captured Merry and Pippin. They eventually encounter a company of Rohirrim who have destroyed the Orcs in battle. The Rohirrim are led by Eomer, who tells the Three Hunters his men found no hobbits among the Orcs. Eomer has been banished from the realm and he is leading an army of 2,000 Riders north. Aragorn nonetheless insists on seeing for himself, and with Eomer's permission Aragorn and his friends go on to the border of Fangorn Forest to search for some sign of their lost comrades.

Instead, they meet Gandalf, now returned from death with greater strength and authority than he had wielded before. Gandalf directs the three to Edoras, city of the Rohirrim, where they meet King Theoden and Eowyn. Gandalf uncovers a sinister plot whereby Theoden's trusted counsellor, Grima Wormtongue, has been secretly working to delay the Rohirrim while Saruman prepares a war against them.

Meanwhile, across the Anduin, Frodo and Sam are overtaken by Gollum as they approach Mordor. Capturing the miserable creature, Frodo reluctantly agrees to let Gollum accompany them despite Sam's protests. Gollum offers to guide them safely into Mordor, since he knows they will be confounded Sauron's preparations.

The trip to Mordor leads Frodo, Sam, and Gollum into the disputed territory of Ithilien. There they are captured by Faramir, brother of Boromir. Faramir reveals that word of his brother's death has reached Gondor under mysterious circumstances, and Frodo is troubled. Faramir decides to take Frodo, Sam, and Gollum to Minas Tirith. But as they pass through the ruins of Osgiliath, a Nazgul on a winged steed confronts Frodo. Seeing the Ring almost fall into enemy hands, Faramir realizes it is too dangerous to keep in Minas Tirith. He releases the Hobbits and sends them on their way.

In Rohan, Gandalf uncovers a plot by Saruman to prevent the Rohirrim from sending help to Gondor. Grima Wormtongue, the King's advisor, is unmasked as Saruman's spy. Eomer's sister, Eowyn, a warrior maiden, falls in love with Aragorn as Gandalf heals her stricken uncle, King Theoden. Reinvigorated by Gandalf, Theoden leads the Rohirrim west to to seek refuge in their great fortress, the Hornburg, before Saruman can overrun the kingdom. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli ride with Theoden's army. Along the way, Warg-riders from Isengard attack. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli assist in defending the Rohirrim. After a fierce battle, Aragorn is missing. He has fallen over a cliff into a river.

Saruman has assembled a huge army of Uruk-hai and Men from Dunland. When Grima Wormtongue arrives to report on Theoden's flight from Edoras, Saruman launches his full assault upon the Hornburg. Theoden reaches the Hornburg and prepares his defences. Aragorn, watched over from afar by Arwen, is awakened by a horse. He rides the horse to the Hornburg and barely arrives ahead of Saruman's army.

Merry and Pippin, having escaped from the Uruk-hai, flee into Fangorn Forest. There they meet Treebeard, leader of the Ents, the ancient Shepherds of the Trees. Treebeard befriends the Hobbits and listens to their stories. He summons an Entmoot, at which the Ents decide not to join the war against Saruman and Sauron. The Ents offer to take Merry and Pippin to any point at the edge of their realm. Pippin asks Treebeard to take them west toward Isengard. Upon reaching the edge of the forest, Treebeard sees the devastation which Saruman's Orcs have wreaked upon his woods. He summons the Ents and Huorns and they launch an immediate assault upon Isengard.

In Rivendell, Elrond predicts the future for Arwen, seeking to persuade her to leave Middle-earth with the Elven-folk of Rivendell. But Arwen chooses to live out the future her father foretells for her, and when she leaves Rivendell she does not tell him her true goal is Lothlorien. The Elves of Lothlorien, unlike the Elves of Rivendell, choose to stay and fight in Middle-earth. They send an army to the Hornburg, which arrives soon after Aragorn. The army is led by Haldir, the march-warden.

When the army of Isengard arrives, a huge battle unfolds. The Elves and Men throw back their enemies in more than one assault, but as the hours pass the walls are breached and the defenders are divided into smaller groups, and then driven deeper into the fortress and the caves behind. Theoden takes refuge in the main hall and waits out the night. But he determines to ride against his enemies at dawn and seek a glorious death in battle. Aragorn promises to ride beside the king.

In the morning, Theoden dons his armor and recites the ballad of Eorl. He mounts his horse and leads the Rohirrim and Aragorn in a charge against the Uruk-hai. The first assault drives the enemy back, but as Saruman's forces regroup, Gandalf appears at the edge of the valley with Eomer and his army. The Rohirrim outside the fortress sweep down the hillsides and drive the Uruk-hai into a waiting forest of Ents and Huorns from Isengard.

Frodo, Sam, and Gollum return to Ithilien and make their way toward Mordor. Constantly prodded and challenged by Sam, Gollum grows resentful. He resolves to betray Frodo and Sam with "her" help.

The Lord of the Rings movies

· Peter Jackson, with funding from New Line Cinema, produced three movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings". Filmed entirely in New Zealand, and starring actors such as Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Liv Tyler (Arwen), Orlando Bloom (Legolas), and Christopher Lee (Saruman), the movies approximately follow the three volumes of The Lord of the Rings with which most Tolkien fans are familiar: "The Fellowship of the Ring" (December 19, 2001), "The Two Towers" (December 18, 2002), and "The Return of the King" (December 17, 2003). Xenite.Org has been keeping fans informed about the progress of the movies since February 1998, longer than any other LoTR movie news site. We are also home to some of the best Tolkien and Middle-earth forums, fan fiction, and commentary on the Internet today.
