Now, if you don't normally go to the cinema when times are good, this is not going to save you money when times are bad. But if you've been catching a $10 movie with your family once a week, there are ways to save money and still enjoy the cinema experience. Here are some suggestions:
If you're a member of a church or other small religious group or have a local community center, volunteer to set up a program for local families to enjoy evenings out. You may be able to start a movie club, a dining club, and arrange for other group activities where costs can be shared and reduced. You may be able to start your own grocery co-op.
If you live in a nice apartment complex and your club-house is available for residents' use, find out what the rules are. How often can you reserve the clubhouse for parties? Perhaps you and your friends can take turns hosting weekly movie parties.
Wash your car once a week. Sound expensive? Think again. If you have four friends you can all get together at someone's house (or maybe at your local church) and wash each others' cars by hand. It's a fun way to pass a couple of houses, your cars will be cleaner if you scrub them by hand, and it will only cost you each about $1 per car. Or ask your church to sponsor weekly car washes for $2-5 donations.
