Tip 9: Try alternative ways to save money

Did you stop buying expensive water-in-bottle and go for the cheap bulk water-in-a-bottle? You may be able to save even more money by installing a low-cost faucet filter in your kitchen sink. Make sure you always have a spare filtration unit on hand so you're ready to replace used up units.

Can't get away from snack foods? There are some healthier alternatives that are not like normal every day "meal foods". People with diabetes have learned to substitute drinks like Ensure Glucose Control and Boost Glucose Control (make sure they say "Glucose Control") for snacks and sometimes meals. These drinks contain about 200 calories in well-balanced protein, fat, and carbohydrates. They usually include fiber, too. And you should be able to buy them for less than $2 a bottle. You may even find coupons for them. Including glucose control drinks in your diet can help you eat healthy, stay regular, lose weight, and save money on snacks and treats.

Take more right turns. In American traffic, many people waste time and gas by trying to turn left across a busy road. You can often save time and gas by turning right and driving around the block. Teach yourself to drive along less busy streets that allow you to make as many with-the-traffic turns as possible. But also remember some turn lanes back up with a lot of traffic. Sometimes it works out better if you just cross the intersection and come back around to where you want to go from another direction (yes, you may have to turn against traffic). Use your common sense and avoid the heaviest congestion in traffic.

Have you used online booking services like Priceline, Hotels.com, Expedia, etc.? For their standard pricing plans, most of the time you'll find they offer the same discounts as each other. You may be able to call the hotel, airline, or car rental agency and get as good or better a deal with some additional discounts or services.

Speaking of Priceline, they do allow you to name your own price but they won't tell you which services are available for the super low discounts. Make sure you study the area so that you choose a good zone in which to name your own price. Choosing downturn versus the suburbs may mean the difference between getting stuck with a dumpy 2-star hotel and a nice 3-1/2-star hotel. Also, when you name your price, offer a ridiculously low price like $25. The system will tell you if you need to go higher. Sometimes it may even suggest a reasonable price you can shoot for. Make sure you raise the bar high enough because you'll get what you ask for -- a low price.

Conclusion - Save money by doing what you always do

We are told too often that we have to make sacrifices in order to save money. That's not always true. You still need to eat, buy clothes, and travel. But you also need to relax and enjoy yourself. If you're looking ways to radically save money these tips will help you save hundreds of dollars every month. You'll still be able to eat out, buy nice things, and have fun with your friends. You'll even be able to wash your car once a week.

Sharing expenses with your friends is more rewarding when you actually help each other save money without sacrificing your lifestyle. Don't think in terms of what you have to do without in order to make ends meet. Rather, think in terms of where you can save the most money for what you really need. Don't assume you're saving money by cutting out movies, restaurants, and hair cuts if you continue to spend money the way you always have in other parts of your life.
