Good fantasy television shows are hard to come by. Spurred by the quick success of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess, or by the relative popularity of low-budget fantasy movies, many fantasy television shows were developed in the 1990s and 2000s.
However, most of the shows failed quickly. Some lasted no more than 1 season. A few lasted beyond 2 seasons. One remarkable success show was ABC Television's very popular Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, starring Melissa Joan Hart. Regardless of the quality of production values, all of these shows had one common trait: they were different from mainstream cops-detectives-doctors-millionaire television shows.
