The prehistoric period of human experience harbors many mysteries we only just becoming aware of. So much time has passed since our ancestors lived in small, scattered villages we no longer have even vague tribal memories of those times. The languages were different, there were no national boundaries, and there were few luxuries.
The prehistoric world is intensely studied by anthropologists, archaeologists, geologists, chemists, biologists, and scientists whose disciplines have only existed for a few years. DNA studies allow us to retrace the footsteps taken by our ancestors over the course of generations.
We reconstruct their houses, study their art, and strive to imagine how the world may have looked to them. But we cannot truly understand what they thought when they looked up into the sky, when they watched their neighbors from atop the hills, or why they chose to leave their homes and chart paths into the unknown expanses of the wildernesses around them.
