When Kevin Sorbo left New Zealand and
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys he had many opportunities to consider for his next career move. Always a fan of Gene Roddenberry, Sorbo chose to work with Majel Barrett Roddenberry on developing a new television show from two concepts Gene had begun work on but never finished.
Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda placed Kevin in command of an artificially alive starship called Andromeda Ascendant. The last surviving warship from the Systems Commonwealth, the Andromeda Ascendant was preserved in the gravity well of a black hole for 300 years while three galaxies underwent a radical socio-political transformation.
Sorbo's character, Captain Dylan Hunt, was inadvertently rescued by salvage operator Beka Valentine and her crew when they pulled the Andromeda Ascendant back into normal space-time. Determined to rebuild the Systems Commonwealth, Dylan recruited Beka and her companions to help restore civilization to a multitude of worlds.
