Having taken online Tolkien fandom by storm, Elemental Films is now poised to unveil its new movie project, "Ancanar", at Dragoncon, North America's largest fan-run science fiction convention.

Details are still being worked out, but Elemental Films has proposed showing a special 5-minute trailer for "Ancanar" at Dragoncon. A shorter trailer was released to the Internet from the Ancanar Web site on Friday, June 16. The Internet trailer features Sam R. Balcomb, the writer/producer of "Ancanar", discussing the theme of the story and how Elemental Films intends to make the production process interactive via the Internet. Fans are invited to ask questions and discuss production art and images on the Ancanar Web site.

Telling the story of a young man who seeks a hidden city of Elves, "Ancanar" promises to have a broad appeal to the fans of J.R.R. Tolkien, who are anxiously awaiting the first of three films based on The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson. Additional information about the movie should be unveiled on the Web site in coming months. A special presentation at Dragoncon will help define what Elemental Films' objectives are.

With an attendance of more than 35,000 people in 1999, Dragoncon has achieved a world-renowned status among fan-run scinece fiction conventions. Several hundred members of the media attend the convention each year and it garners coverage on the popular SciFi Channel as well as in the print media.

Because of the special appeal that the "Ancanar" project holds for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien, Michael Martinez, director of the Tolkien and Middle-earth track at Dragoncon has agreed to coordinate with Elemental Films to help ensure their presentation is supported by the Tolkien track.

Elemental Films has made its presence known to the online Tolkien community for several months, previously announcing they were hoping to secure the rights to produce a movie called "Elessar", which would tell the story of the young Aragorn and Arwen without overlapping on Peter Jackson's production in New Zealand. Unfortunately, the rights were not immediately securable and in May Elemental Films announced the project was on hold. But they had already begun working on the "Ancanar" project.
