We were notified only a few days ago that Freeservers is severely restricting services made available to its free accounts. Back when Xenite.Org did not have much disk space to speak of, it made sense for us to put the message board archives on the free accounts offered by Freeservers.Com.
We now have all the disk space we need, but because there are over 35,000 archived messages, moving them back to Xenite.Org was never a priority.
Regrettably, we are unprepared to move all the archives at this time. So, we are deleting the messages from the Freeservers accounts to ensure we stay within the new reduced quotas. As soon as possible, we will make the archives available on our new server, which is currently hosting our forums under the domain name of SF-FANDOM.
So far, the Andre Norton archive has been moved to SF-FANDOM. Two other archives, for our Andromeda Forum and our H.P. Lovecraft Forum, have been relocated to SF-WORLDS.COM.
HOWEVER...SF-WORLDS has also been hosted on Freeservers for a couple of years now, and we are having to relocate the domain.
We apologize for the confusion and sudden loss of the old archives. We know that people still like to browse them on occasion. We will get them up again as soon as possible.
Freeservers has been a good hosting service for us through the years. They have provided all the free space we could ask for and all they ever asked was that we show their banners. But they have to make ends meet, and part of their changes in business plan include eliminating free account FTP services and reducing the disk space quota for free accounts. Both changes affect our archives significantly.
SF-FANDOM is going to have its own look and feel. In time, the message board archives will be updated to seemlessly fit in with the SF-FANDOM design. Work is underway to complete the new design templates, but we're stretched a little thin these days. So we appreciate everyone's patience and continued support. The forums have really taken off since they got their own server. People are happy with the improved server performance, and until Freeservers dropped their bombshell on us, we were starting to catch up with some old projects which had been languishing.
We'll keep plugging away at it, though, and hopefully Xenite.Org and its growing family of Web sites will continue to please a large segment of online fandom.
