Xenite.Org's technical problems in September and October

Much to our chagrin, our most recent server change lasted several weeks and resulted in considerable downtime.

However, the server change was necessary. We found our email was being blocked by a couple of ISPs who subscribe to the disreputable Osirusoft email blacklist service (they are completely irresponsible, and we gave serious consideration to blocking all access by visitors from the ISPs which subscribe to the Osirusoft blacklisting resources).

The deciding factor for us, however, came from our own Webhosting ISP, who informed their customers they were changing Network Operating Centers. We requested a new (clean) IP address and thought we would make the move quickly and quietly. However, we ended up requesting additional changes in service and were assigned yet another IP address, so we had to move the entire Xenite.Org network a second time. Doing so resulted in Xenite.Org itself (and all the services we provide) going offline.

Dixie Harrison put in many long hours to resolve the technical issues. We believe everything should now be pretty much the way it is supposed to be. We are still checking for broken links, missing files and directories, and assessing the damage.

We regret the inconveniences many of you experienced during the downtime. Some of us were without email service for over a week.

We will be working on updating our content in the next few weeks, as well as cleaning up whatever small problems we still encounter.

At this writing, the Internet Authors Network Banner Button service has been restored and recent applications have been reviewed. Some existing accounts have also been updated. Also, we've restored the news feed from TheOneRing.Net to our Lord of the Rings movie news site.

Dawsalee has sent us new episode summaries for the History of Xena site and we'll get them uploaded soon.

And we have a long list of reciprocal link requests we'll be reviewing in the coming days. We understand that some sites which started linking to us in good faith have taken down the links. We regret the extended delay in processing the requests, but this is an all-volunteer staff and we have to find time for our offline lives, too.
