Michael Martinez launches semi-official blog site

January 17, 2006 at 23:25:03

Why is it semi-official? Because the blog is located on a commercial service. But there is a reason for that....

In late December 2005, Xenite.Org founder Michael Martinez was cruising through some search engine optimization blog sites and he found one that mentioned our November 2002 announcement that Xenite.Org no longer accepts reciprocal links.

Michael wanted to post a comment but he found he had to be a registered member of the Blogger.com service in order to do so. After registering and posting the comment, he found he had a blog with no content. So, just for the sake of completeness, Michael began posting comments in his new blog.

Before long, Michael decided to run a contest to help promote the blog and his books, Understanding Middle-earth: Essays on J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth and Visualizing Middle-earth. The contest was to be a "Where's my secret blog?" scavenger hunt. But in his zeal to fill the blog with content, Michael had accidentally posted several comments about J.R.R. Tolkien and Middle-earth.

It seemed it would be too easy for people to find the blog, since Michael is well-known for writing about Tolkien and Middle-earth. A limited scale contest was announced on the Endor discussion group. It took less than a day for Matt Tinaglia to find the blog.

So, there will be no "Where's my secret blog?" contest, but we will be providing a feature article about Matt, who edited two of Michael's books, very shortly.

In the meantime, if you would like to read about the connection between Elvis Presley and Girl Scout cookies, then browse on over to Michael's semi-official blog:
