Never send an amateur to do a professional photographer's job. Maybe next year we'll get a better layout for the costume contest. But Michael did the best he could. Unfortunately, by the time the winners were chosen, he had used up all the film in his camera (and though you may be thinking, "That is what extra roles of film are for", there is a long story behind that camera....)
Hm. Well, they didn't look that bent out of shape when the picture was taken....
If you want to know who won the contest, well, take a look at the tall guy standing in the middle. He was dressed up as an Elven archer (not exactly Legolas, but he got plenty of cheers and catcalls from the girls).
Thenamir had his hands full with the costume contest. There were more than 20 contestants. He divided the line into groups and had the audience pick the best costumes from each group. Not bad for a 15-minute contest (the movie was about to start, but the audience was pretty enthusiastic about the costumes).
Elf maidens were everywhere, and you only see a few of them in the costume contest. Many of the costumes were hand-made (or, so we were told).
A lot of people were wearing their pointy Elf ears. Not exactly Tolkien-like, but they worked well enough for the movies. The lady on the right was not a contestant. She was helping to keep the contest rolling along -- or maybe checking to make sure that Gandalf wasn't using his sword and staff on some poor innocent in the audience.
Galadriel and her hand-maidens had quite a bit of competition, but the young lady in the light blue gown swept the audience off their feet (at least, the guys couldn't stop cheering when she stepped forward).
Arwen primps for the camera, or maybe she's about to cast a spell on Galadriel? You can never be sure with an Elf enchantress, especially a descendant of Luthien Tinuviel!
