Well, it wouldn't be a report without some clear shots of that neat Two Towers poster mounted on the wall outside the screening room and of the goodies layed out on the table. People filed past the goodies table, collecting numbered tickets and asking things like, "Why is that guy in the gold shirt taking my picture?" and "You want my TELEPHONE number? I don't THINK so, buckwheat!"
In recognition of their dedicated service to Tolkien fandom (and perhaps slightly in the vain hope of enticing one of them to sacrifice one of those neat glowing rings they were wearing around their necks), two members of the AMC Gulf Pointe 30 Theater staff were invited to get their picture taken for the Internet. Um, the ploy didn't work. Our trusty photographer failed to secure the coveted glowing ring....
Looky, looky, she's got goodies (on the table, boys, on the table). Posters, action figures, and other neat stuff (including two autographed copies of Visualizing Middle-earth) were arrayed on a table in the hallway leading to the screening room. Excited audience members were given numbered tickets to hold on to for drawings. Cards, 3-D thingees, and other free merchandise donated by LoTR licensees helped make the evening a rewarding one for a few hundred people.
Vince and his kids pose for the camera in one of the rare moments of the evening where Mr. Thenamir actually took a breath and paused for about half a second. Those aren't cookies they're holding up (would have been a nice touch). Hey, are those two autographed copies of Visualzing Middle-earth that we see sitting in the foreground on the corner of the table?
The movie posters were pretty popular, but people went after the action figures with gusto, too. Vince managed to throw a few hats out to the audience, and some other things we didn't get to keep passed through people's hands.
