Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World is no longer in production. This page has been preserved for historical purposes.Update, April 7, 2001 We have been patient. We have been supportive. We have been disappointed. Someone has been pulling strings behind the scenes, and no one is really willing to talk about what is going on. Furthermore, Telescene went into bankruptcy in early 2001, their stock stopped trading, and they halted all film and television production in March, 2001. Cine-Group has apparently acquired Telescene's assets and Robin Spry has joined Cine-Group. Although distributors are scheduling a third season for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World, we're still not sure the show will make it to a third season. And, if it does, there is no word yet on whether Professor Summerlee will return. Many fans have given up. Of course, the show is picking up new fans, but there are still many among us who want to see Professor Arthur Summerlee rejoin the Challenger expedition. After all, there is no reason to eliminate a primary character from the storyline, and it's not like getting rid of him helped the ratings of the show in any way. Michael Sinelnikoff remains in good health and is able to do his part. In fact, in an apparent effort to please fans, the show is bringing Summerlee back in episode 21 of the second season, in a flashback capacity. All that Sinelnikoff was contracted to do was provide some dialogue. If we see the character of Summerlee at all, it will be through old footage. Still, we have been told that Summerlee is not dead. So, the producers are keeping their options open. And if they are doing that, then we should still keep telling them that we want one more option exercised: Michael Sinelnikoff's. Xenite.Org fully supports the effort to get Summerlee back on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World. However, our resources are stretched thin. So, we're working in conjunction with another fan site, Karen's fan page for The Lost World, to keep fans informed. Karen has promised to keep her page up-to-date as far as what is happening with the Save Summerlee campaign. Karen's news and campaigns page has all the latest information and addresses for fans who want to share their thoughts with Cine-Group, Coote-Hayes, New Line Television, Tribune Entertainment, and anyone else we learn about. So, please stop by Karen's page and learn how to help save Summerlee. And then be sure to visit our Lost World Forum to discuss this show and other related topics with other Lost World Fans. Important news, May 17, 2000 In what appears to be a victory for fandom, a message purporting to be from the Lost World Producers was posted to Xenite.Org's Lost World Forum on May 16, 2000. The message states that Professor Summerlee will be returning to the show for the second season after all. Fans are eagerly awaiting some word from Michael Sinelnikoff himself to confirm the good news, although one fan has stated she asked Telescene for confirmation of the message and received it. Xenite.Org has taken no action in this matter. Michael Sinelnikoff is travelling at the present time and we may only hope his agent will contact him with glad tidings. We wish Mr. Sinelnikoff well in this and all future proceedings, and deeply appreciate the support that fans have shown to this great show and actor. News, May 16, 2000 We have received private assurances that the message from the Lost World Producers is legitimate. Fans must now wait to see how Summerlee's fate is to be resolved in the second season. Fandom Cries "FOUL!" Michael Sinelnikoff recently announced to startled fans on the Lost World Message Board that he has been informed he will not be returning to SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE'S THE LOST WORLD for the hit show's second season. Loosely based on the popular novel about an early 20th century expedition to a lost plateau where dinosaurs still exist and produced by Telescene Film Group, the show premiered on DIRECTV in 1999 and has been distributed worldwide through syndicated markets. It was ranked second among the newest action/adventure shows in the American syndication market.
An active fandom has been building an online community around the show and Sinelnikoff came out of lurking to commune with online fans despite his very active off-season schedule. He recently just completed work on "The Forgotten Attic", directed by Michael Landon, Jr., and based on Landon's story THE VELVETEEN RABBIT. The film is due to be released next year after the addition of 25 minutes of animation. SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE'S THE LOST WORLD has introduced the legendary Challenger Expedition, consisting of Professor George Challenger, Professor Arthur Summerlee, Lord John Roxton, Marguerite Krux, and Ned Malone, to strange new adventures in space and time. Produced by John Landis, the series has adopted a devil-may-care approach to the action/adventure genre by pitching the expedition and their beautiful ally, Veronica, against ape-men, dinosaurs, Vikings, Conquistador Indians, desperadoes, giant bees, and a myriad of other strange creatures, tribes, and civilizations. Fans have rallied behind Sinelnikoff, who plays the popular Professor Summerlee in the first season of SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE'S THE LOST WORLD. They have begun expressing their dismay to and asking for reconsideration from Telescene's executives. Telescene has offices in Montreal, New York, and Los Angeles, but they have published contact information on their Web site and fans are actively encouraging each other to send polite but firmly worded protests to the executives. The email addresses are located at: http://www.telescene.ca/html/team.html NOTE: Telescene ceased to exist in March, 2001. Please be sure to check Karen's News and Campaigns page for The Lost World. The official Web site for the show is located at: http://www.thelostworldtv.com/ The Lost World Forum, a fan-run forum not affiliated with Telescene or the show, is managed by Xenite.Org and is located at: http://www.xenite.org/forums/fantasy-tv/the-lost-world/ Fans are actively discussing plans for raising the standard of protest, as they strongly feel the Challenger Expedition is completely lost without Professor Summerlee, Professor Challenger's long-time rival and critic in both the original story and the pilot movie for the series. Moved by the strong reaction of online fans, Sinelnikoff cautioned them to exercise discretion in their communications with Telescene and other parties: "If you express yourself directly to the Producers, please be moderate in the expression of your opinions - honey always catches more flies than vinegar." Barring unforeseen conflicts, Sinelnikoff will be greeting fans at DragonCon thus June 29 - July 2 in Atlanta, GA. DragonCon is North America's largest fan-run convention and last year boasted an attendance of more than 38,000 people. DragonCon's official Web site is located at http://www.dragoncon.org/ and carries current information about the convention's guests, memberships, and available accomodations. |
