Every science fiction television show has to figure out how its space craft need to look and operate. Barrier is no different in that respect. It will be interesting to see how the production team handles issues such as space habitation, navigation, and moving craft across vast regions of space in a reasonable amount of time.

The racing world has evolved through millennia. In ancient times chariots and horses dominated the racing world, although Greek athletes participated in foot races for more than 700 years in the Olympic Games. Today racing maintains ancient horse and foot traditions but also embraces races on other animals (including ostriches and camels), in modern vehicles like cars, trucks, and motorcycles, and in flying competitions. The pod race from George Lucas' "The Phantom Menace" showed science fiction audiences around the world that racing can be a familiar sport to many species.
